Welcome to our Coach Rambles

Coach Rambles involve walking long distance routes in stages with the luxury of having a coach to drop us off and pick us up at the beginning and at the end of each stage. Each stage is about 10 miles in length (moderate grade), lasting about 5 to 6 hours and includes one lunch stop and two short breaks.

The 40 Arc

The 40 Arc follows a 40 mile radius from Chorley . Devised by Malcolm and Denny Robinson in 1990, it is a walk of about 180 miles from Point of Ayr in North Wales to Arnside in Lancashire visiting parts of the Sandstone Trail, The Roaches, Leeds County Way, Ingleborough plus lots more highlights along the way - join us on any or all of the sections.

Starting at the Point of Ayr on the Dee Estuary, the following maps are needed, in order:

Landranger Maps
: 116, 117, 118, 119, 110, 104, 103, 98, 97

Explorer and Outdoor Leisure: 265, 266, 256, 257, 268, OL24, OL1, 288, 297, OL2, OL7

In December 2009 we completed the southern half of 40 Arc and presented certificates accordingly
Now we move on to 40 Arc North, which passes through attractive and varied countryside.
In 2010 we shall walk 40 Arc every month except February, when there is no coach. From here on participants can start counting towards another certificate, 40 Arc North, which will be awarded at the end of the Arc, at Arnside.

Offa’s Dyke Path
We completed Offa’s Dyke Path in December 2009 with a triumphal dipping of our boots in the sea in Prestatyn.  It was in July 2005 that we started out on the Offa Dyke Path from the Bristol Channel.

Miscellaneous

The price of a seat on the coach is dependent on a good turnout, so do tell all your friends, whether they be new people or lapsed members about the great variety in the Walk. A day’s coach costs well over £300 but if we can persuade a good number of people to keep coming regularly, we can keep the price down.

Every Coach Ramble takes place on the 2nd Saturday of the month and the coach leaves Union Street, Chorley at 8.00am for all Coach Rambles.

As with all full day walks, please remember to bring the necessary food and clothing.

Booking and payment for the next stage normally takes place during the day of the ramble. However, bookings can be made by telephone up to a few days before the aforesaid walk.
